We are providing a series of videos that focus on maneuvers that require a bit of attention for both students and technicians! Assessments and evaluations for Level 3 IRATA and Level 2 SPRAT test your knowledge, competence, and comprehension for rescues with a casualty. This particular video demonstrates how rescue a casualty when they are resting on a knot. Watch the video below, or head on over to our YouTube Channel so you can watch other techniques and skills carefully!

Key tips and takeaways:

There are many different ways to perform this rescue, depending on where the knots sit respectively on each rope.

Rescue:

  • If possible, keep yourself below the knot on the back up line, this will ensure you don't need to pass it again on the way down.
  • You can "pick" a casualty off their descender just like you would the Croll when there is no room to lower because of the knot. Think outside the box!
  • Using a releasable lanyard gives you more control, just be careful of ROPE STRETCH!
  • Always think ahead, double and triple check before committing, there are many ways to get "stuck" on a rope, ie. caught on knots, fully extended on gear! Slow and steady wins!

Use these videos to study and gain comprehension for yourself. We provide them because we want to support our students' success, but also feel that creating great educational material creates great and competent technicians.

When the time for using rescue maneuvers in the field comes, you do not want the added stress of being unfamiliar with the techniques. These maneuvers are ones you may not often be utilizing, book a refresher or an open gym, with us to practice them! Both options are great for ensuring you stay on top of your skills for your recertification or upgrade!!

Remember: Every recert or upgrade training session booked receives a FREE Refresher day the week before! Don't miss out on that opportunity to ensure your success. Ask us about it when you register!
