When it's time for Refresher Training

When it's time for Refresher Training

Posted by Jemia on March 28,2018

If you hold a valid Rope Access certification, but it’s been more than 6 months since you last did any rope access, you will need to attend a refresher training session before getting back on the ropes for work. Your competence and comfort with heights and with the technical demands of at-height work is extremely important. This requirement is in place to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you.

More Than 6 Months Off Rope

The length of your refresher training will be specific to your skill level and needs. At PacRopes, an IRATA L3 rope tech will facilitate the training, and supervise as you run through all the curriculum (techniques and theory) relevant to your level, along with any changes to the TACS or SPRAT Certification Requirements that have been made since your last assessment. This session will be signed off in your logbook as proof of refresher training to show to your next Employer.

Keep in mind that depending on how you do, the level of supervision you require may be adjusted when you go back to work. Even though there is no formal assessment at the end of the training, you should take this opportunity seriously. Get a good night sleep, show up well prepared, and do your best. We’ll be there to support you.

Less Than 6 Months Off Rope

If it’s been less than 6 months since you were last working in suspension, but you still feel that you could use a short refresher, come check out our Open Gym nights. We host them about once a month to give our techs the chance to practice and fine tune their skills (more info on our Facebook Event page).

BONUS: Your time spent on the ropes at our Open Gym Nights is recognized by IRATA as admissible hours, and can be included in your log book! This won’t necessarily be enough to be considered for Refresher Training, but it’d be good practice all the same. They’re also great opportunities to meet other techs in your community.

Refreshers typically occur on Thursdays. If you've trained with us already, you can always join one of our ongoing classes to get your refresher. Contact us asap if you're due for one!

In addition, for every Upgrade or Recert Training session you register in, you get a FREE Refresher day because we want you to be prepared, and succeed!
